In Color Class

Many of you are going to be amazed! I'm posting what we did on the day that we did it!!!

(I'm going to have to update some of these pictures during Easter break. They are a little dark.)

The first card that we made was from the Sale-A-Bration stamp set Fresh Vintage. The designer paper is also from the Sale-A-Bration catalog. We used Poppy Parade, Apricot Appeal, Pool Party, and Lucky Limeade markers to color the stamp. The Adorning Accent Edgelit and Adorning Accent embossing folder created the fancy edge on the Very Vanilla card stock.

Our second card was a modified case from the Occasions Mini Catalog. It features a flower from the Mixed Bunch stamp set. Two of the petals were cut away to make a butterfly. The same thing was done with the Calypso Coral card stock that was punched with the new Blossom punch. The butterfly was spritzed with a mixture of the Champagne Shimmer paint and alcohol.
Finally, everyone got very creative with the simple butterfly card. No one's card looked exactly like mine. (I wish I took pictures!) The reason we made a simple card was so we would have time to make a custom envelope for our card. Below are the directions for making the envelope.

The following was made using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool and the new diagonal plate:

(I WILL ADD PICTURES TO THESE STEPS DURING EASTER BREAK!)

  1. Line up your card diagonally on the upper left corner.
  2. Put both corners in ticks that are the same distance from the corner. For example, our card lined up with 2 5/8" going across and down.
  3. While the card is lined up, note the measurement of the bottom tip of the card. Add another 1/2" to that length and cut a square piece of card stock that size. For example, the tip of our card was at 6 1/4 " so we cut as 6 3/4" square. (We decided later, that if your card has a lot of embellishments, it might be a good idea to add 3/4" to the measurement and cut a square that is 7".)
  4. Place the diagonal plate on the Simply Scored Scoring Tool, and line up the card the way you did in step one. Diagonally score 1/8' away from the card. (If your card has a lot of embellishments and you cut a bigger square, score 1/4" away from the card.)
  5. Repeat for the other three sides.
  6. Fold all four sides into the bump of the score line. Mark off where the tip of the bottom of the envelope meets the sides and cut it off.
  7. Measure one side of the flap and cut a square piece of DSP to adhere to the inside of the envelope. (Ours measured 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".)
  8. Fold the sides in first and put snail on the two bottom side flaps. Bring up the bottom of the envelope and press down to create the finished envelope.

Shaving Cream Technique

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

During Thursday's Technique Class, everyone had the chance to play with shaving cream! One of the cards we made was this St. Patrick's Day card.
You can get many different looks with the shaving cream technique. All you need to do is add reinkers to shaving cream. (It can't be the gel shaving cream. It needs to be the old fashion white foam. Scent doesn't matter!)

After "swirling" the reinkers, smush glossy card stock into the shaving cream and tap it in so that the shaving cream touches all of the shiny side of the glossy paper. Peel the glossy paper off of the shaving cream and lay it on a paper towel or wax paper. Take a popsicle stick or the back of a knife to scrape off the remaining shaving cream.

To dry the card stock without smearing the design, fold it in a paper towel glossy side down and carefully move the paper towel back and forth so the glossy paper moves with the paper towel.
Below is the second card that we did.
